It is OK to use it for conventional reservoir. In this case, we like to know which part is pay or producing oil, which one is not.

For some unconventional reservoirs, especially, when using Fracking technology, all zones will be fractured and be part of producing zones. No pay zone or tight zone can be defined by the lower or no porosity. In this case, reserves is the function of  PhiE*So*H. There is no need to use the porous zones and take out the tight zones by using a cut-off.

This concept, cutoff for Net Pay, would be taken out from our practice in the future. We already have effective porosity(PhiE) and effective Swe,so we can get net pay by parameters. There is no need to use a cutoff to get net pay.
Especially for unconventional play, Net Pay/Gross play = 1

有效厚度下限标准：主要指物性标准，包括孔隙度、渗透率和含油饱和度 3个参数的下限。由于岩心资料难以求准油层原始含油饱和度，通常用孔隙度和渗透率参数反映物性下限。
确定有效厚度物性下限的方法：测试法；含油产状法；泥浆侵入法；经验统计法等。
