Special Issue of Oxford Journals The Computer Journal on Next Generation Networks
CALL FOR PAPERS The Computer Journal Special Issue on Next Generation Networks (NGNs)
A Next Generation Network (NGN) is an advanced, packet-based network that exploits multiple broadband, QoS-enabled transport technologies to provide telecommunication services. The objective of NGN is to focus on users and those service-related functions that are independent of underlying transport-related technologies. With the advent of NGN, services that are currently provided by multiple specific network-centric architectures are migrated towards a single, converged, user-centric communication network. NGN provides AAA (Anytime, Anywhere and Always on) access to users from different service providers with consistent and ubiquitous provision of services as necessary. The principles and requirements of Convergence of Fixed and Mobile Networks (FMC) and IP Multimedia Sub-layer (IMS) are likely to deliver all the desired benefits of NGN and should be carefully examined and studied. This special issue is intended to foster state-of-the-art research in the area of NGN and are expected to focus on all aspects of NGN and to present novel results and solutions to solve various problems and challenges foreseen in future NGNs. It will cover the following topical areas but are not limited to: * Multimedia applications over NGN * Convergence of Fixed and Mobile Networks * IP Multimedia Sub-layer in NGN * Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) / RFID application over NGN * Security and services over NGN * Applications deployment over NGN * Signaling and control in NGN * NGN service enablers and platforms * Emergency and location-based services in NGN * NGN charging issues, parameters, and models * Experimental service designs and implementations for NGN * Interworking, Interconnection, Interoperability Issues of NGN * Cross layer design for 3G, 4G or NGN * WiMAX integration into NGN * Impact of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) applications on NGN * IPv6 deployment over NGN Guest Editors Han-Chieh Chao (Corresponding Editor) Department of Electronic Engineering National Ilan University I-Lan, Taiwan, ROC hcc@niu.edu.tw
